When the Department established in 1956 the Head of the Department was Professor V.S.V Guruswami Sastrikal. Although the Department holds the name Vedanta it gives more importance to Advaita Vedanta. The syllabus is designed to pay homage to this world renowned philosophy as Kerala being its birth place. Currently the Department became a center of learning to teach traditional subject to the contemporary learners using the modern teaching methods.
